In the small Northern Idaho town of Bonners Ferry, students and teachers face potential catastrophe every day. Their school, Valley View Elementary, was built in 1949 with recycled materials from a decommissioned World War II base. It has cracks in the walls, a leaky ceiling, and rusted plumbing - a hazardous combination that has faculty and school district leaders worried something disastrous could happen at any moment. In addition to the school, the Valley View community faces a larger problem - funding. Idaho is one of only two states in the country that requires a 66% majority to pass a bond for school facilities, making it nearly impossible for them to raise money and build a new school. Despite this continuous uphill battle, the staff at Valley View show up every day to create an engaging and welcoming learning environment for kids.
